Boris Gelfand enjoyed one of the longest careers at the top of chess, remaining a world-class competitor for over three decades. He challenged Viswanathan Anand for the World Championship in 2012, pushing the match to rapid tiebreaks after a 6-6 tie in classical games. Known for his deep strategic understanding and meticulous preparation, Gelfand won the 2009 Chess World Cup and the 2011 Candidates Tournament.
